Welcome to the MCU Weekly Pulse, a rundown of all the stories throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe that we didn’t cover in News or Features this past week.
First Look At The Captain America Statue
Part of San Diego Comic-Con this week was the reveal of the Captain America Statue that will eventually be homed at Prospect Park, in Brooklyn. While we have seen sketches of the statue before, now we can see the real thing.
A similation of the statue in Prospect Park, where it will be on display after the cross-country journey, was also released. The statue was created by Comicave Studios, and is more than just a piece of fan-art.
Comicave Studios worked closely with Marvel artists in New York and a Brooklyn-based sculptor to design the bronze tribute, standing at over 13 feet and weighing 1 ton. The statue will continue to stand tall on the show floor throughout San Diego Comic-Con for photo ops with fans, and 1/12-scale bronze replicas of the statue will be available for purchase. Plus, a custom comic book was created by Marvel Publishing writers and artists to integrate the statue into new storytelling. This one-of-a-kind comic will be available in limited quantities at San Diego Comic-Con and future Captain America events.
In the end, the Cap statue will be living in Brooklyn.
“To the rest of America and the world, he’s Captain America; to us, he’ll always be Steve Rogers, ‘just a kid from Brooklyn,’” said Borough President Adams. “Brooklyn is proud to be the base of celebrations for Cap’s 75th anniversary, which will be capped by a larger-than-life statue traveling around our borough — befitting of this larger-than-life character. Prospect Park is the place to be this summer to enjoy the Captain America!”
After the half-month stop in Prospect Park, the Captain America statue will move to the plaza outside Barclays Center on Atlantic and Flatbush Avenues for September, during which several Marvel fan activations take place. From late October through the remainder of the year, the statue will adorn the soon-to-be-opened Bed Bath & Beyond® in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Fans of all ages will enjoy a specially re-designed statue base, for heightened interactivity and photo opportunities with Captain America, as well as see and shop for a variety of unique Marvel items, including limited quantities of scaled replicas of the bronze statue itself.
So if you aren’t going to see the statue during it’s cross-country tour, you will be able to make the trip to Brooklyn in the future and have some sort of interaction.

Yondu Gets A Self-Portrait For His Ship In ‘Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2’
This Guardians of the Galaxy portrait was discovered in San Diego, featuring Yondu. Michael Rooker has never looked so good. If you’ll recall, this is the same image that director James Gunn gave to Rooker for his birthday. Why this is a prop in the movie? Who knows. But it’s pretty hilarious/great.
Isn’t it Marvelous? (Pun intended, you’re welcome.)

New ‘Iron Fist’ Set Photo Surfaces
Back on the east coast, filming is still in progress for Iron Fist, which appears to have been filming in Chinatown.
It isn’t the most exciting set photo, but it’s nice to see something from the set after a few weeks of nothing. (Not that yesterday’s teaser wasn’t great!)

Zoe Saldana Talks ‘Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2’
In a recent interview with Screen-Rant while promoting the latest Star Trek film actress Zoe Saldana, who plays Gamora in the Guardians films, gave a little bit of information about the Guardians of the Galaxy team as they move into the second movie.
“It’s going to be fun. They’re not likeable still. They make a lot of mistakes, but hopefully they’ll save the day.”
Unfortunately, her quote is rather simple – making sure to avoid leaking any sort of details too early. But with the cast set to take the stage in Hall H tomorrow, maybe we’ll get something?!?! Fingers crossed!
