Ever since the first Ant-Man came out, CGI de-aging has slowly become a trend within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We got a 40-year old Michael Douglas in 2015, a 20-year old Robert Downey Jr. in Captain America: Civil War and a 30-something Kurt Russell in all his rugged glory in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, it was only a matter of time until the next one came along. Alas, it seems like Ant-Man & the Wasp may be the next MCU film in line to feature archaic de-aging as new set photos reveal a CGI-dolled up Michael Douglas alongside Michelle Pfeiffer, giving us our first look at Janet van Dyne as well.

It’s a no-brainer that the scene being filmed is a flashback. The real question is where in the past. Recent Ant-Man & the Wasp (or Cherry Blue if you’ve been paying attention closely) casting calls have been on the lookout for extras to appear in an 1980’s scene set in Argentina. Coincidentally, an extra who appeared in the film took to Reddit to share his experience working in the film. The user revealed that he was playing an Argentinian high schooler and that Michael Douglas had dots on his face in the scene, confirming the context of these set photos. As we mentioned before, the 80’s is when Janet disappears into the Quantum Realm, ’87 to be exact. We reckon that this de-aging scene takes place close to that incident. Something or someone from Argentina may play a part in Janet’s disappearance.
