Yesterday’s Ant-Man brought a glimmer of excitement to this terrifying cycle real-world problems and this one should do the same, if not get everyone more excited. According to GWW, Ant-Man 3‘s previous scripted drafts written by Paul Rudd himself featured the infamous villain M.O.D.O.K. as the film’s big bad. And not only that, as the site is also saying the Young Avengers is Marvel Studios’ desired guest appearance for this film.
M.O.D.O.K. is a character that we’ve been hearing now and then when these MCU creatives get asked about it during press junkets. In 2018, both the writers of Avengers: Endgame and Ant-Man director Peyton Reed have expressed interest in possibly bringing this character to life. Granted, their quotes were spoken in jest but with a crazy fun film like Ant-Man, it makes complete sense to introduce a crazier, more over-the-top villain with M.O.D.O.K.. GWW is also reporting that the mysterious Benefactor role we’ve been hearing this past couple of months is, in fact, M.O.D.O.K..
Marvel also reportedly toyed with the idea of introducing the Fantastic Four in this film but instead settled on the Young Avengers, which in my opinion is the right direction. Debuting the First Family in another film not as leads but mere supporting characters feels like a disservice to both franchises. Young Avengers is the logical way to go with Cassie now a teenager and the rest of the team making their debuts elsewhere on the slate.
