Captain America: Civil War is currently deep into filming, and with Chadwick Boseman set to make his debut as the Black Panther, it seems likely that we’ll be getting some kind of concrete information on who’s going to be in charge of the character’s solo film soon.
It was reported a few weeks back that Ava DuVernay (Selma) was being courted to direct either Black Panther or Captain Marvel for Marvel, but things have been quiet since. That might be changing though, the website We Are Wakanda is reporting that DuVernay is indeed in talks with Marvel to direct the Black Panther movie and at this point simply has to just accept the job. Even more curious, they are reporting that Duvernay – if she takes the job, that is – would likely be present on set during the filming of the Wakanda scenes for Civil War, which are due to start filming in the next few weeks.
I’ve interacted with the folks over at We Are Wakanda on many occasions over the past 6 months, and they seem like quality people who have no need to peddle bullshit for website hits. So this definitely perked my interest when I read it. Additionally, they have uploaded a few behind the scenes photos of some extras taken during the scenes in the African market that we’ve covered extensively in the past. With these photos, and some quality detective work, they were able to confirm that the market we’ve seen actually takes place in Nigeria, specifically Lagos, which can be deduced by the LASTMA insignia on the officers hat and shirts as seen in the photos below.
Last but certainly not least, We Are Wakanda is able to confirm that Damion Poitier, who we reported was on set earlier this week, is playing one of Crossbones henchman, not Chadwick Boseman‘s stunt double like many have speculated.
Captain America: Civil War is set to hit movie theaters on May 6th, 2016, while Black Panther won’t hit the big screen until July 6, 2018.
