Marvel Studios may have revealed it’s Phase 4 slate but it seems quite a few other projects are already in early development. The Hollywood Reporter is now reporting that Ms. Marvel, Marvel’s first Muslim superhero, will star in her very own comic book series on Disney+. This timing is perfect as D23 is currently underway so an official announcement may be imminent. They also have hired British writer Bisha K. Ali as showrunner for the series, who is currently working on Hulu’s Four Weddings and a Funeral.
Kamala Khan is a recent addition to the Marvel mythos but has already been making numerous appearances since. She is part of the animated Marvel Rising series, appeared in the Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 game and will have a large role in Square-Enix’s upcoming Avengers game. With the recent news that the MCU may lose Spider-Man, it is good to see that Marvel Studios is actively developing an additional hero to offer a younger viewpoint on being a superhero. Her addition alongside Kate Bishop in the Hawkeye mini-series and the appearance of an older Cassie Lang in Avengers: Endgame, we might be seeing the Young Avengers coming together in the near future.
What are your thoughts on the reveal? Are you excited for a Ms. Marvel series?
