It is well-documented that Nebula (Karen Gillan) has some daddy issues. You’ll remember an epic, angry monologue from the blue cyborg regarding her father Thanos’s (Josh Brolin) cruel treatment since childhood in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and with both characters appearing in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War, expect some dramatic closure of sorts.
Den of Geek asked Gillan if she’ll get her “big moment” with Thanos, to which she responded:
“I’ve been sworn to secrecy,” Gillan demurs. “But I definitely think that all of what we’ve been building towards, with all the backstories between Nebula and Thanos, is definitely going to come to a head in the Avengers film, and she’s definitely going to confront all of those traumatic memories. I definitely think she is going to have her moment.”
If you remember Jim Starlin’s “Infinity Gauntlet” story in the comics, you’ll know that Nebula did indeed have a big role in combating Thanos. We won’t tell all in case it comes into play in Infinity War, but we will say that the “Nebula moment” in that story was an unexpected game-changer.
Gillan also confirms that reshoots for the next Avengers movies are planned all the way into 2018.
“So this is the longest shoot in the world. It’s been going since January, and it goes right up until December. And then it goes into reshoots—like immediate, more additional photography—next year. So it’s like an ongoing thing, which is really cool, because it feels like a whole family now.”
Bless Karen Gillan for not only getting through such a long shoot, but getting through it in all of that blue make-up.
