We have not seen an entry into the Iron Man franchise since Iron Man 3 back in 2013. Tony Stark has been quite a prominent presence throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He took over a prominent supporting role in Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming. Still, it would be nice to see Tony Stark return once again in his own feature film. While the upcoming Infinity War and its sequel will determine if Robert Downey Jr. will return in the role, there is still the open question who would potentially direct the film. Now, science-fiction director Neill Blomkamp threw his hat into the ring to potentially tackle the character.
Hypothetically … ironman – love the character https://t.co/45oNuh2RRt

The director behind District 9, Elysium and Chappie could bring a rather interesting sci-fi twist to the franchise. A larger emphasis is being put on the cosmic side of the universe, so seeing the futurist stuck in space only equipped with his armor could be an interesting story. Maybe he will attempt a completely different type of story and we get an Iron Man film where he is looking after Ultron. Just imagine a version of Chappie but with a younger version of Ultron trying to make up for his past actions. There is also the opportunity to tell a story featuring Riri Williams as he leaves behind his legacy as Iron Man. Seeing a rivalry between her and Peter Parker could be an interesting angle to tackle in a film.
What type of story do you think Blomkomp would tackle with Iron Man?
