2018 may be Marvel’s biggest year yet as we started the year with the last few episodes of Runaways, had an early return from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s adventures in space and are only a few weeks away from our first visit to Wakanda in Black Panther. The first quarter already packs quite a punch but we should not forget that Jessica Jones is getting a second season in March. To celebrate this event Empire released an exclusive image from the upcoming season before they release their full scoop on the show on February 25th.
The first picture does not reveal much about the show outside of Jessica trying to pick up something heavy that somehow managed to land in the middle of the road. A vehicle wreckage caused by another super powered character? An act of kindness from Jessica, the unexpected Samaritan? The second offers us a first look at ]Janet McTeer‘s mysterious role as a possible villain](https://mcuexchange.com/oscar-nominee-janet-mcteer-joins-jessica-jones-season-2-mysterious-role/) while the third has Jessica and Malcolm hanging out in what seems to be the location of Jessica’s first meeting with Kilgrave. You can see this scene from a different angle in last month’s announcement trailer.
One of the major aspects of the first season was Jessica’s PTSD from her mind-controlled life with Kilgrave and it seems that the second season will bring back another dark aspect from her past that will haunt her. We get a small snippet from Melissa Rosenberg‘s interview with Empire alongside the picture that highlights this deeper look into Jessica’s character.
“We’re always digging deeper into Jessica’s character and this season we’re peeling back even more layers, revealing more about the experiences that have shaped her present-day life.”
It will be interesting to see how they evolve the rather jaded Jessica that managed to survive a week with her bulletproof ex, a guy in a Devil costume and a boy with a glowing fist. Moreover, the return of Kilgrave was confirmed and it might be interesting to see how he will help explore these additional layers that Rosenberg teases in this interview. We are only a few months away from getting our answers to the private eye’s next adventure.
What are your thoughts on the second season? What do you hope to see happen?
