We are only a few weeks away until we can finally see the second season of Luke Cage. The show will feature the return of Harlem’s new hero right after he became an icon and survived a battle with ninjas in The Defenders. While the Avengers are out there fighting off Thanos, he has to carry his own weight down in Harlem. The first trailers teased that he will not only face a foe that can go toe-to-toe with him but also that his biggest burden will be the weight as Harlem’s public figure. To truly highlight this fact we get probably one of Netflix’s best posters for their Marvel series, as we see Cage fighting through a horde of people with their phones.

There is a lot to unravel here. The tagline “Never Forget Who You Are” is an interesting tagline, especially after the first season spent so much time revealing Cage’s past. It does hint at a deeper exploration of what makes Luke tick alongside the tease of him having to battle how he is viewed in the public eye. All eyes will be on him and even the slightest misstep could come with a heavy price. This is even more evident when he is suddenly knocked off his feet by a single kick to the jaw. It feels very similar to the line dropped by Ivan Vanko in Iron Man 2 that if you make God bleed people will cease to believe in him. That extra note comes from the quote used on in the tweet “All Eyez on Me” which is a nice tribute to 2Pac. It highlights the cultural relevance of the show and its strong ties to music.
Are you excited for Luke Cage‘s second season? What are your hopes for it?
