As filming commences on Punisher Season 2, we have begun to receive our first batch of set photos! The first season was highly acclaimed, and is regarded by many to be the best of the Marvel/Netflix series. While we don’t yet know what direction the sophomore season will be taking us in, these set photos might just give us our first hint.
The set photos feature the return of Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, but also include newcomer Giorgia Whigham. According to Deadline, Whigham will be playing Amy Bendix, a “street-smart grifter with a mysterious past.” The character does have a comic book history, appeared first in Punisher: War Zone #24 where she nursed Castle back to health after he was injured during a vigilante spree. After she was abducted, Castle then had to hunt down her kidnappers and rescue Amy with help from her county sheriff father. However, it seems that the show will be taking a spin on the character, as many rumors point to Season 2 dealing with the 2005-2006 Garth Ennis comic arc The Slavers. In this dark arc, the Punisher takes down a ring of sex-slavers, and it is very possible that Giorgia will be playing a runaway or victim in this story-line. (A victim who Frank takes on a shopping spree? Does this mean Frank has graced the doors of a Forever 21? Your guess is as good as ours…)
