New Warriors may not have a permanent home network as of this writing but the tone and direction of the show seems to already set in stone. Speaking to SyfyWire, Fabian Nicieza, the quintessential comic book writer of the team’s 53 issues, described the show’s tone as a docu-comedy of sorts.
I’ve actually had numerous conversations with the showrunners to discuss this very thing. The TV thing is not the original comics thing; it is its own entity, and my desire is for it to be as good as it can possibly be for what it is. And what it is is a half-hour dramedy, comedy docu-comedy show about a young group of 20-somethings living in a house, pretending to be superheroes.
So it sounds like there’ll be a mockumentary reality-TV aspect to the show ala The Office. Something that fans have been clamoring for in the MCU for quite some time now. Remember how funny Team Thor was? Imagine that but an entire show. There’s no telling how much of a mockumentary it will be but the idea seems pitch-perfect for the source material. The New Warriors in the comics were at one time TV reality stars. It was during their show that the mass casualty incident in Connecticut happened in the original Civil War comic. Previous reports about New Warriors said the pilot episode attracted the attention of several TV executives, indicating that the material was top-notch. This could be the reason why the show impressed TV execs. If only the show could find a network to be in now.
