The last time we saw Nick Fury was back in 2015 with Avengers: Age of Ultron. Just a minor appearance, it was unsure where we would see him next. Speculation went wild on where we could potentially see Samuel L. Jacksons‘ character pop up again. Some wondered why he did not appear in Captain America: Civil War, but before the release of Avengers: Infinity War the only films he could make an appearance are Spider-Man: Homecoming and Black Panther. In a recent interview while promoting Kong: Skull Island, we may have gotten some more information where we can expect Fury to return in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and insight about a potential Fury solo outing.
“Yeah, I’d love to do a Nick Fury movie. I’m always open and game. But they got Infinity Wars, two movies to do there, and after that there’s Brie [Larson’s] movie Captain Marvel, which maybe [Nick] will be part of. Also, I asked them, “So you’re doing Black Panther and the only black character in the Marvel Universe is not showing up?” And they’re like, “Nick Fury is not in Wakanda!” How can he not know the other black superhero on the planet? How the hell does that work? But they just said, “No you’re not in that one.”
It is nice to see the actors enthusiasm for having his own film, but it is also interesting that we would potentially see him return in a Captain Marvel film. While some assumed her character would tend more towards the cosmic side of the universe, it could hint at her still having a earth-bound storyline. Even though Nick Fury appeared in every Avengers instalment, it is interesting that he did not confirm his return in the upcoming film. There is also the possibility he is being coy on his return. On his comments regarding Black Panther, it is sad to see that he won’t make an appearance, but it would allow for the film to stand on its own legs. It will be interesting to see where and when we will see the return of Fury.
