For fans patiently waiting for news regarding Captain Marvel, the last hour has treated you kindly. After a long search with plenty of rumors about the leading lady and the one behind the camera, Brie Larson is the latest actress attached to play Carol and seems like a deal is going to take. That means the next step for Marvel is filling out the supporting cast, but also signing on a director to make the film.

In their write up on the Larson news, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed two names that they are told are “contenders” to direct. The two women they mention are Niki Caro and Jennifer Kent. Both choices fit the mold for Marvel with choosing unknown and rising directors that they can help mold, similar to choosing Taika Waititi and Jon Watts. Caro actually has a Disney connection having directed 2015’s McFarland, USA for the studio. She’s also someone who is sure to see her name continue to be attached to big pictures as she’s currently in post on The Zookeeper’s Wife starring Jessica Chastain and is set to helm Callas next. As for Kent, she’s most known for the fantastic The Babadook, a film that has led to her being named as a director to watch. If I had to pick between the two, I’d love to see Kent get the job, but either director would be a great choice.

What do you think of these two contenders? Sound off in the comments below!

Captain Marvel is scheduled to hit theaters March 8th, 2019.
