While on the press tour for the second season of her Netflix show, Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter speculated that the crossover event The Defenders was a one-time deal. When asked about the critical reception to that eight-episode season, Ritter tiptoed around the question about the series as a whole and more towards the positive response to her own character’s role.

But while she may have enjoyed the experience, Ritter doesn’t expect to reluctantly team up with her fellow supers anytime soon.

Y’know, I had a great time doing The Defenders and honestly, it was such a good experience that I would even do it again. I don’t think we are doing it again. It was never intentioned to do it again, but, you know, if I was given another opportunity, I would. My heart is with my show because of the subject matter and because of the great drama that we get to do and the personal issues that we explore. For me, that is more the type of content that I enjoy as a viewer and as a performer. My heart is in Jessica Jones, but I did have a great time doing The Defenders with the guys. We had a good time. It is what it is.

The Defenders didn’t exactly set the world on fire with its reviews, even amongst our own staff. Couple that with comparatively lower viewing numbers to the other Marvel/Netflix shows, and we could see why there are corporate reasons for not wanting to have another go at this crossover series.

Still, we are just getting into what is basically the “second phase” of these Netflix shows, with Jessica Jones season 2 being the first post-Defenders season in this grand story (The Punisher doing his own thing). We don’t know what the upcoming seasons of Luke Cage, Daredevil or Iron Fist have in store, so there could be plans that we, and maybe not even Ritter, are aware of.
