Over the past few months, rumors have been abuzz regarding Marvel properties being developed at ABC ranging from a Jessica Jones-esque procedural to a Ms. Marvel show helmed by John Ridley. Add to that Jeph Loeb‘s previous comments about how “more Marvel shows are headed to ABC,” this knowledge of shows in development have inevitably given fans a sense of excitement about the immediate future of Marvel TV. If you’re one of those fans, prepare to be disappointed because it sounds like those properties in development didn’t make the cut for ABC head Channing Dungey.
We developed a couple things this season that we don’t think are going to end up going forward, so we’re going to look really carefully about what we do next.
The upside is that this doesn’t necessarily rule out the possibility of more Marvel shows after the season at hand. Our own Adam has been long speculating that ABC is the most likely candidate for the New Warriors show now that it’s been pulled from sister-company Freeform. If Marvel is willing to wait past the season, maybe ABC is a perfect fit. With the Fox deal in the cards, the door is wide open for ABC to start developing properties from that roster of Marvel heroes (when the deal completely passes regulation that is). What’s also interesting here is how unpredictable the development process is. One minute, you’re cooking up an entire show and the next, you’re tossing it out of the window.
