Notably absent from that awesome appearance by the original Guardians at the end of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was the team’s most recognizable member, Vance Astro. An absence that inevitably led some fans to believe that Vance Astro’s eventual appearance in the MCU was being saved for a potential inclusion in the third Guardians of the Galaxy installment. Those fans can say goodbye to those hopes for now, as James Gunn just dropped a definite answer during a panel in HasCon (where our boi Caleb is currently at).

For those who don’t know, Vance Astro aka Major Victory is a time-displaced superhero who happens to wield a future version of Captain America’s shield. The dude is a very important GOTG member. With the way the current cosmic and mystical template of the MCU is shaping up, the concept of reality-warping and time travel feels more likely than ever. A Vance Astro appearance inspired straight from the comics is something that could absolutely work in a Guardians of the Galaxy film, especially now that the film is slated for a post-Thanos/post-Avengers 4 MCU. Even though we’re a bit bummed that James doesn’t have any immediate plans for the character, there is something to be excited about a director having his vision locked down.

Here’s hoping that Gunn has a place for Major Victory in that rumored Ravagers spin-off film down the line. Make sure you follow us on Twitter for the latest updates from HasCon!
