Ahead of their sure to be kickass panel at New York Comic-Con, the folks behind Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. have revealed via Deadline that Natalia Cordova-Buckley, also known as Yo-yo, is being promoted to a series regular for the show’s fifth season. Read their press release here:

“Natalia is a powerhouse in her work and in her daily life, and she has imbued one of our favorite characters with her natural strength and humor,” said S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producers Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, and Jeffrey Bell today of Cordova-Buckley and her role as Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez. “Natalia was instantly a part of the S.H.I.E.L.D. family the first day she walked onto set, and we’re happy she’s now an official member of the S.H.I.E.L.D. team,” the trio added of the Mexican actor.

As one of the show’s best-kept secrets, we aren’t surprised at her being promoted to a well-deserved series regular position, only that it happened now and not back in Season 3 when she was introduced. But whatever. We’re glad that she’ll be in this show more. Despite it being brief, her Slingshot web series was actually kind of fun and we sure wouldn’t mind seeing more S.H.I.E.L.D. one-offs like that. We can’t wait to see what they have in store for her character.
