It has been quite a day. After a long downtime for Marvel Studios news, we finally got a plethora of information on the upcoming release of Captain Marvel. We got our first official look at Brie Larson as Carol Danvers on today’s release of EW. In addition, we got screenshots from the film featuring Skrulls, the Kree Starforce, and even a younger Nick Fury. That is not the end of it yet, as we also got an official synopsis for the upcoming film and it seems like Marvel is truly trying to avoid the classic origin story.

“Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel sidesteps the traditional origin-story template, and when it begins, Carol already has her powers. She’s left her earthly life behind to join an elite Kree military team called Starforce, led by Jude Law’s enigmatic commander. But before long, Carol finds herself back on Earth with new questions about her past. And she’s got a formidable enemy in the form of the Skrulls — the notorious Marvel baddies made all the more dangerous by their shape-shifting abilities. Ben Mendelsohn plays their leader Talos, who spearheads a Skrull invasion of Earth.”

So, to avoid the clichéd origin story we will start off her adventure as a part of the Kree military. We most likely will get some hints at how she got her powers throughout the film in the form of flashbacks, as the “with new questions about her past” addition seems to hint at her suffering from amnesia. This is an interesting twist and could open the door to a rather surprising direction, as they have mentioned that they will rework Captain Marvel’s origin story. The pictures released online revealed that Mar-vell (Jude Law) is standing alongside an already powered-up Danvers. It is interesting to note that he is only described as “enigmatic commander”. He is Kree in the comics so maybe he takes this form to make her believe that she is part of the Kree race that does not share the blue skin tone. Once she returns to earth there is a chance that her lost memories will return, especially once she meets up with Nick Fury. The Skrulls and Talos might even have a connection to her unknown past. These are just speculations but with them reinventing the character’s origins there are a lot of possibilities.

What do you think of the synopsis? What do you think will happen in the film?
