What a week it has been for Marvel Studios! Since the start of the year, Marvel has been hard at work just as the fans are used to, with 2 movies in post-production and at least 3 series shooting for a Disney+ release in 2020 or 2021. Not much has been released in terms of casting in a few weeks, but today looks to change that with the snap of a finger. A new report from Comicbook.com has broken the news that comedian Owen Wilson has been cast in a major role for the upcoming Disney+ mini-series Loki!
His role in the show has not been disclosed yet, but that won’t stop everyone from geeking out over this odd yet exciting announcement. After all the reports of how deeply Loki will connect to the greater MCU, it will be very interesting to see if he will show up on both the Marvel small screen and big screen, along with exactly which reality he will inhibit during his stay. The show is reported to have deep tie-ins with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and we can only imagine how cool it would be to see him alongside Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen after all the trouble he gets into around the God of Mischief, if that does end up coming true.
Wilson has spent the better part of 30 years in the spotlight with starring roles in countless different films, including fan favorites such as Zoolander, Wedding Crashers, the Cars and Night at the Museum franchises. He has even proven to have excellent dramatic acting chops with his performances in films such as Marley and Me, along with the 2015 action-thriller No Escape. He joins Sophia Di Martino and MCU fan-favorite Tom Hiddleston in the cast of Loki, which is set to release on Disney+ in spring 2021, and all of us are squealing with excitement for this all-star cast!
