MCU fans are preparing for the end of an era with Marvel TV this summer before the franchises’ new beginnings on Disney+ at the end of the year. The beginning of the end is less than a month away with the seventh and final season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premiering later this month.

The entire team is set to come back for the final 13 episodes along with a number of special guest stars. News has already arrived regarding both Hayley Attwell and Enver Gjokaj reprising their roles as Peggy Carter and Daniel Sousa from Agent Carter in the season premiere. That is not all as news has just arrived revealing another fan-favorite making a triumphant return.

According to a new exclusive from CBR, Patton Oswalt will be returning for a final run on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s seventh season! Taking into consideration the time period, our favorite S.H.I.E.L.D. team is currently in, this raises an important question: who will he be playing?

The Hollywood veteran quickly became a fan-favorite throughout the show’s first few years playing the strange and enigmatic brotherly tag team of Eric, Billy, Sam, and Thurston Koenig. His last appearance came in season 4 as everybody except Eric, but now that the S.H.I.E.L.D. team is stranded in 1931, it’s anybody’s guess as to what his fifth character in the series will be. To add to the potential theories, CBR also revealed a first look at Oswald‘s upcoming appearance that confirms he will be a character from the era they are visiting.

There is a good chance he will be playing another member of the Koenigs. It wouldn’t be a huge shock to see him filling a role as one of the earliest members of S.H.I.E.L.D. considering the entire Koenig family’s dedication to the organization and Phil Coulson. Of course, it would be fun to also play with the idea that he may be a precursor to the LMDs given the Koenigs involvement with the project.

Whatever role Patton Oswalt plays, we can’t wait to see him in action again! The seventh and final season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premieres on ABC on May 27, 2020.
