It’s no secret that Kevin Feige and his crew at Marvel Studios love to play the long con. Since the inception of the MCU, they’ve been at it planting small seeds that would later pay-off in major ways. Be it actual characters or subtle story details, the MCU is filled with seeds. And one of those seeds is Cassie Lang, the daughter of Scott Lang introduced in the first Ant-Man film. Speaking to Comicbook, director Peyton Reed shared his thoughts on the future of Cassie Lang in the MCU.
Well, I think one of the things that we’ve set the seeds for in both movies — and I think particularly in Ant-Man and the Wasp — is Cassie Lang, Scott’s daughter. In the comics, she goes on to be a hero in her own right, so I love the idea that in this movie we see that moment where she covers for Scott and stands up to the FBI agent. We see a little bit of her father’s personality in her. I’m intrigued to kind of see what the future holds for Cassie.
It’s interesting Reed’s comments coincide with reports of Cassie Lang appearing in Avengers 4. A few months ago, our friends at That Hashtag Show scooped that Emma Fuhrmann had been cast as a teenage Cassie. Even though this report is still unconfirmed and will be until we actually watch the film, Reed’s comments add credence to it. Avengers 4 has been said to blow the doors of the MCU wide open and with it, endless possibilities on what may come. I wouldn’t put it past Feige and his crew to have a plan for Young Avengers in the next few years with Cassie Lang included.
