Over the last few weeks we’ve finally started to hear some reports about the newest installment in the Ant-Man franchise, courtesy of our friend Charles Murphy, and today brings an exciting, albeit expected, bit of news to celebrate! The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Peyton Reed will be returning to direct Ant-Man 3, becoming the 3rd director in the MCU to have his own trilogy alongside Jon Watts (Spider-Man) and James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy).
There are no confirmations with regards to the film’s title or plot but the rumor from Charles Murphy is that the film may be a launching point for the Young Avengers. Filming is set to begin in early to mid-2021 with a release in 2022 during either Phase 4 or Phase 5 and that the Doctor Strange sequel and Thor: Love and Thunder would commence shooting before this third Ant-Man film.
Like other directors in the MCU, Peyton Reed started his career in the comedy world and was brought on as the director of Ant-Man very late into the process after notorious Edgar Wright debacle in 2014. His two films thus far have grossed over $1.1 billion combined at the global box office and are universally loved by fans. Now we wait to find out more details on the third installment and can celebrate Reed’s return to complete the Ant-Man trilogy!
