Update: Deadline has confirmed that Pom Klementieff has joined the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 as Mantis as speculated.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 has added a new member to the team of galactic heroes, casting French actress Pom Klementieff, best known in the U.S. for her role in Spike Lee’s remake of Oldboy. Klementieff’s role is being kept under wraps for now, but we’re told she’ll be playing the superhero Mantis.

With Doctor Strange reportedly just a few days away from the start of production, the next film for Marvel to focus on is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. We’ve known that there will be a few new additions to the cast, but we weren’t quite sure who could be cast in these roles.

We know that we’ll meet Star-Lord’s father, and popular theory is that Adam Warlock could appear as well, maybe they’re one in the same. Gunn had also previously stated his desire to add another female to the team, which should give a pretty big clue as to who the newest addition to the cast could be.

The Hollywood Reporter has broke the news that Pom Klementieff, a relative newcomer to Hollywood, has been cast in what they described being a “key role.” Klementieff reportedly went through a number of chemistry reads, for the part that required an Asian actress.

Who could she be playing? All signs seem to point to her playing Mantis, who has a Vietnamese background. She has telepathic abilities that allow her to communicate with plants, as well as other forms of life.

Mantis was at one point rumored to appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron, so she could have a pivotal role moving forward in the MCU.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled to hit theaters May 5, 2017.
