When it comes to Marvel Studios, it’s widely known that they prefer to keep things as secretive as possible – both on the film front, as well as the television front. This was something we experienced first hand when the studio issued a press release earlier this year to confirm the start of production on Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2, purposely leaving out character names for all of the cast newcomers. (Of course, writer/director James Gunn did confirm the character of one of those new additions: Pom Klementieff as Mantis.) However, as great a cast list as that was, it wasn’t the full cast. Much like was the case with the first film, Gunn has found a way to sneak in a cameo for frequent collaborator Nathan Fillion, and this time around, it’s a more noticeable cameo.

Thanks to the folks over at Comicbook.com, we know that Fillion will be appearing in the highly-anticipated sequel as none other than Simon Williams, a.k.a. Wonder Man. But wait! There’s a big twist to this one, folks. Over the weekend, set photos arrived that showcased a theater setting for the upcoming sequel, teasing what looks to be a scene – or various scenes – set to take place on Earth at some point in the film. As interesting as those are on their own, it’s what’s actually hidden in the set photos that’s the real interesting bit here. The most obvious is the marquee banner highlighting the Simmon Williams Film Festival, but it’s really the posters on display for the film festival that are truly worth a double take. (You can view those above.)

Now, these were more than likely meant to simply serve as fun Easter eggs for fans. So if you were hoping to see Fillion appear in the film as Wonder Man? Unfortunately, I’d say you’re out of luck. Still, it’s a fun little nod to the character, and an interesting way to sneak Fillion in for the sequel.
