So earlier today, I was at my country’s annual Asia Pop Comic-Con where they held a Marvel presentation titled Hall M – more on that here. In that presentation, they featured footage from upcoming MCU properties such as Inhumans and Thor: Ragnarok. During the Punisher segment of the presentation, our distinguished host C.B. Cebulski who happens to be Senior Vice President of Creator and Content Development at Marvel) dropped an interesting tidbit about Frank’s debut show. While praising Jeph Loeb‘s oversight over Marvel TV’s success with the Netflix shows, C.B. stated offhandedly in verbatim that “another Marvel hero may be showing up [in the Punisher],” a comment that a handful of the audience gasped at. There’s no telling what C.B was truly implying but for the sake of it, let’s try to guess who it is.
SPOILERS FOR THE DEFENDERS BELOW!
The ending for The Defenders left some very interesting implications for the characters of Daredevil and Iron Fist. With Daredevil “dead”/missing from the public eye now, that leaves a lot of room for Danny Rand to take over the mantle of Matt Murdock as protector of Hell’s Kitchen. And because Frank and Hornhead go ways back, a scene where Frank returns to Hell’s Kitchen to look for DD, only to find this whiny blonde dude instead is something that could definitely happen in the show. Be it an end tag or a post-credits scene. Also, it’s not completely reliable but Daredevil stunt maestro Chris Brewster has The Punisher listed in his IMDB credits. Coincidence or just another case of us reaching way too hard?
Another interesting possibility is that the hero being talked about by C.B. is none other than Marc Spector/Moon Knight himself. We know that The Punisher will heavily incorporate military elements in its plot so who’s to say that another military guy like Marc Spector couldn’t possibly show up in Frank’s show? Daredevil Season 2 practically functioned as a backdoor pilot for Frank’s own season so we know Marvel and Netflix are open to mix and matching character debuts in the shows.
C.B.’s comments may turn out to be conjecture or postulation once the smoke clears on November. C.B. may not be in tune to the finer workings of the Netflix shows like others. Nonetheless, we find his comments very very very interesting. Mainly because we really want either of our options to be true.
