Thank the good sweet lord for Jeff Goldblum! Tonight we received some absolutely unexpected, but expectedly exciting, news about the MCU courtesy of our own very own Grandmaster as he lived out what could only be described as a dream day of work: playing with puppies and filming a video for Buzzfeed on Youtube. At the very tail end of this video, Goldblum was asked by a fan if he will be returning for Thor: Love and Thunder and gave the fans an answer to a completely different, but equally pressing question:
Hey. Well, we’re talking about it in fact. You know, I hope so. I love Taika Waititi. He’s a great director and a friend of mine. So I hope so, but I played the part again a couple of days ago. I went to the Disney Studios and I recorded the Grandmaster’s voice for an episode of a show that’s going to be on Disney+ called What If…? where it’s an animated version of all the characters we know and love from Marvel. And this episode included the Grandmaster and Iron Man, so Robert Downey will do a voice in that. And Korg, Taika Waititi, had already recorded his voice for that. So yeah, I enjoyed it for a couple of hours. I enjoyed doing that again. So the Grandmaster is well.
That’s right, Iron Man himself is returning! Robert Downey, Jr., the man who helped jumpstart the entire MCU, has seemingly returned to voice the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist for Marvel Studios’ first animated series, What If…? Just as exciting is the fact that Tony and the Grandmaster will be in an episode together!
When the show was announced at SDCC this summer, he appeared to be one of the only cast members left off of the confirmed casting list along with Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson, so this bit of news is a huge win after (spoiler alert, for the maybe 2 people who still haven’t seen this) his death by Infinity Gauntlet in Avengers: Endgame. What If…? has already gained plenty of hype with all of this summer’s announcements, and the return of RDJ should only help to pump that hype up exponentially!
