There is no denying that Claire Temple, played by Rosario Dawson, is the glue that holds the Netflix side of Marvel’s properties together. To date, she has appeared in each one of the seasons for all four of the future Defenders. While she lacks superpowers of her own the Night Nurse regularly patches up each of our heroes, dispensing wisdom and sometimes a much-needed censure to our often cocky champions.
Under the tutelage of Colleen Wing, as shown in the recent Iron Fist series, Claire has learned to fight for herself and gained not only confidence to take care of herself, but a fantastic pair of metal claws. In the process of helping Danny Rand and her sensei, Colleen, she also gained invaluable fighting experience in defending herself again The Hand. But many are wondering, why is it we didn’t see Daredevil helping her out of her latest predicament?
While obviously each of the individual Netflix properties want to maintain their own flair and individuality, Collider asked Ms. Dawson her opinion about why Daredevil didn’t make an appearance and the prospects for a Claire cameo in the upcoming The Punisher.
“We always allude to it that I’ve got this friend, but he gets to have time off. He was working on The Defenders, and he’s about to start up Daredevil again. At the end of the day, it’s really hard to get all of those casts together. For The Defenders, it was difficult to get everybody together. People are busy! There are so many times where I really want it to happen. I really wanted to do a cameo on The Punisher, but it doesn’t always work that way.”
She makes another good point, that the filming schedules are complicated at best, and that each of the individual actors is very busy. Thankfully, The Defenders will provide us all an opportunity to see our favorite Netflix heroes together, and gives Claire and Luke the chance to reunite and possibly rekindle their romance. And while it isn’t looking likely that Jessica Jones and Luke Cage will find their happily ever after together in the shows as they have in the comics, it’s nice to see our resident nurse find some happiness between fighting ninjas and stitching up our heroes.
Ms. Dawson’s final comments also confirm that she will not be making an appearance in the upcoming Punisher show, marking the first time she has not appeared in one of the Netflix Marvel shows. This news may disappoint fans, however, it seems that we will be seeing a lot of Claire in The Defenders. In addition, it seems that Claire may not be as keen to help someone like The Punisher anyway.
The Defenders drops on August 18th, 2017, with The Punisher release slated for a later date. Daredevil seasons 1 and 2, Jessica Jones season 1, Luke Cage season 1, and Iron Fist season 1 are now available on Netflix. Premiere dates for the next seasons of Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and Luke Cage have not yet been announced.
