After months of teasing from the Russo brothers, it seems like Jeremy Conrad knows the title of the upcoming Avengers movie: Avengers: Annihilation. This obviously does not mean that the plot for this movie will be based on or follow that cosmic focused event from the comics, since Avengers: Age of Ultron certainly wasn’t about time travel or alternate universes in which Ultron ruled.
This also seems to fit with the three big criteria that were said about the title by Kevin Feige and the Russo brothers:
- It would be a spoiler for what happens in Avengers: Infinity War
- The closest guess of the subtitle was “forever”
- That it should scare us
It certainly follows the first and third, along with the second one too, if given a bit of leeway, since “annihilation” does sound like it has some finality and permanence to it. Additionally, in their cryptic Instagram post, this title can be interpreted by way of standee on the left and the ladder on the right forming two A’s. This was pointed out before when many (wrongly) assumed that it meant the title would be “Avengers: Assemble.”
But, like with Joss Whedon and Avengers: Age of Ultron, the Russo brothers are likely just using this title because they like it and not because they plan on basing the story off that specific run in the comics.
So, what do you think of this title? You like it?
