UPDATE: Gina Prince-Bythewood has tweeted about her invovlement in Cloak and Dagger, all but confirming this story. Although Marvel has yet to comment, we’re no longer categorizing this as a rumor.

The original story is below:

News about Cloak and Dagger, the show that was ordered straight-to-series by Freeform nearly a year ago, has been almost non-existent since the show was announced, but the fine folks over at Season Zero have given us some insight as to who may be directing Ty Johnson and Tandy Bowen when they finally make their small-screen debut. According to the site, which has had a great track record recently for this type of thing, Gina Prince-Bythewood has signed on to direct the Cloak and Dagger pilot:

Prince-Bythewood is a writer/director known for The Secret Life of Bees, Beyond the Lights, and several television credits including Everybody Hates Chris and The Bernie Mack Show. Given the show’s synopsis calling itself an “interracial romance”, Prince-Bythewood seems like a great fit for Cloak and Dagger, as her projects have dealt both with race and romance. And of course, the fact that she is a black woman is a welcome step in diversity for Marvel projects both on-and-off camera.

We still have no official word on who might be playing the titular team, but we here at MCUExchange are currently trying to verify a tip about two actors who might be our Ty and Tandy. Make sure to check back tomorrow for more details.

Cloak and Dagger, Marvel’s first TV show on the Freeform Network, follows “the interracial romance between Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart — but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.”

Cloak and Dagger is expected to air on Freeform in 2018.
