While Marvel’s blockbuster Hall H panel at last month’s SDCC revealed their plans for Phase Four, the studio has plans stretching far beyond just the next two years – and if this new rumor is anything to go by, some of those plans should make cosmic Marvel fans very happy.
According to MCU Cosmic, Marvel has plans in place to introduce both Galactus and Tyrant into the MCU. Obviously, Galactus being used in the MCU is no big surprise – he’s one of Marvel’s biggest villains, and well overdue being done justice on the big screen – but the apparent plans for Tyrant are a bit of a surprise.
In the comics, Tyrant is a servant and creation of Galactus, who eventually grows equally powerful to his master and rebels against him. He’s certainly not as well known as the character’s other heralds, such as the Silver Surfer, but the MCU is known for taking C-and-D-list characters and making them into major players – Talos, anyone? – so the inclusion of such a character wouldn’t be out of the ordinary.
The report doesn’t reveal how exactly the studio plans to introduce these characters, or even if they plan to introduce them together, but there’s certainly a lot of different ways they could go about it – for example, with some small tweaks, the pair’s relationship could be adapted to be somewhat similar to that of Ronan and Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy, which would allow Galactus to slowly be built up as another major threat, similar to Thanos. Whatever approach Marvel takes, it’s bound to be better than turning the Devourer of Worlds into a cloud. As for where these characters could show up, that’s anybody’s guess – but Captain Marvel 2 or the inevitable Fantastic Four reboot would be my guesses. Or perhaps even a Silver Surfer solo film?
As always, take this rumor with a grain of salt, but it’s not hard to believe Marvel have plans for how to introduce Galactus into the MCU, especially given the character’s prominence and the studio’s recent cosmic push.
