When Marvel unveiled their Phase Four slate at SDCC earlier this year, one property that was completely absent from Kevin Feige‘s presentation was Nova – one of the few major Marvel characters left that are yet to debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Well, it looks like that status could be soon going to change, as a new rumor suggests that Nova is in fact in development for Marvel’s Phase Five slate.

According to MCU Cosmic, Nova is “one of the big characters planned for a Phase 5 debut alongside Blade, The Fantastic Four, and the Mutants”, and could possibly materialise “relatively early in Phase 5” thanks to supposedly having been in development for a while. If Phase Five does begin with Black Panther 2 in 2022, then we could be as little as three years away!

This rumor isn’t of course a massive surprise; a Nova solo movie has been talked about and rumored for a long time – most recently last December when Adam McKay indicated Marvel had plans for the hero – and the character was even considered for a role in Avengers: Infinity War, taking Bruce Banner’s place as the character who would crash into the Sanctum and warn Doctor Strange and Wong of Thanos’ looming threat.

Still, regardless of how likely the film already was, it’s good to hear that a Nova movie could well be rocketing its way to the big screen in Phase Five – though bare in mind this is a rumor for now, so take it with a grain of salt. Regardless of whether or not the hero gets his own solo movie in Phase Five, given the growing cosmic direction of the MCU, and the destruction of Xandar following Infinity War, it seems inevitable that Richard Rider will show up at some point over the coming years.
