One of the highlights of 2019 was the Spider-Man debacle which saw the push and pull of the rights of the character between Sony and Disney. It was a seesaw battle between two studios trying to regain the rights of the famed web-slinger. The good thing is that the two studios saw a common ground and found a way to incorporate the friendly neighborhood hero into both the MCU and the Sony’s own Spidey-verse. And now, we could be seeing the early seeds of the deal coming into fruition. A new report from Fandomwire states that the Jared Leto-led Morbius film is confirmed to be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The report revealed that the connection to the wider MCU is said to be through a cameo of J. Jonah Jameson, who is played by J.K. Simmons, which we first saw in the mid-credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home. It is unknown yet how the cameo of Jameson would be pivotal to the plot of Morbius. It could just be a quick cameo where we see Jameson ranting about the web-slinger which would give an idea to casual audiences that this film is part of the larger MCU. If this proves to be true, this is going to the first official connection between the two universes.

Moreover, another report from ComicBook.com revealed that Morbius is rumored to actually mention Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man. The said mention will reportedly be via wanted posters around New York City. This comes after the heels of the events from Spider-Man: Far From Home after Mysterio revealed the identity of Spider-Man to the world. The wanted posters could serve as an easter egg for the fans and could be a ‘spot and you’ll miss it’ cameo. One thing to note is that this is just a rumor and the said posters could not end up in the final cut of the film.

All of these rumors come in the midst of the trailer release of Morbius which is reportedly next week. I guess we’re going to find out if these are all just rumors or it is just something to hype up the film.
