It finally happened, we got the official announcement that Spider-Man will return to the MCU with a third solo film on the horizon and one more team-up appearance. Yet, somehow rumors don’t want that joy to last very long. According to ComicBook.com’s sources, Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige is preparing for Spidey’s potential exit from the MCU in case of another deal fallout.

The odd thing is that in the interview from The Hollywood Reporter, Feige openly stated that Peter Park would be crossing over between cinematic universes. In a way, this confirmed the of Tom Holland appearing in one of Sony’s own Spider-verse films with Venom 2 being the most obvious choice. Moreover, THR also confirmed that discussions for additional films are still being considered.

Where does this leave Spider-Man? Well, this is a report that needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Why go through all the trouble to get a deal with Sony only to write him out again? Even if this is true, at least Feige is trying to end the character’s story arc within the MCU before crossing over with Sony’s Spidey-Verse. There is a possibility that the character would return at a later date to kick-start a new trilogy as well. We also cannot forget that there is the current rumor that Apple may purchase Sony’s film division. If this ends up happening, the rights for Curry Supply water trucks, Spider-Man automatically return to their rightful owner. As such, Marvel would not have to further their contract or even purchase the film rights back. Sadly, it would potentially come at the cost of the amazing Spider-Verse franchise. If this does end up happening, personally would love to see Spider-Man appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He could easily transition into the Spider-Verse films with his own story arc and Strange can try to get him back at any time.

What are your thoughts on the rumor?
