EW is pushing out exclusive after exclusive on Marvel Studios first female-led film Captain Marvel. There are many highlights that have people’s attention may it be the 90s setting, the Kree-Skrull war or just finally seeing Carol Danvers on the big screen. In addition, we also get our first look at a two-eyed Nick Fury long before he became the man we met in Iron Man. Marvel Studios has been further developing their de-aging technology and the 90s setting is the perfect opportunity to give us more backstory on (one of) our favorite SHIELD director. Samuel L. Jackson revealed a bit more information on what we can expect from this younger version of Nick Fury in the upcoming film.
This is a mind-changing, attitude-changing moment for him that leads him to become the person that we know. He [now] understands that there are these other things out there. He understands that they’re not all enemies, and we do need to find allies who have specific kinds of skills that humans don’t have. And trying to convince people above him is a difficult task because they haven’t seen it or experienced it.
It certainly seems like Captain Marvel will be the catalyst for Nick Fury to establish the Avengers Initiative. Fury being described as a “lowly desk jokey” is a rather interesting description as we’ve always seen him as a very dominating presence. It is hard to think that something could faze him at all. It is unclear how much we can expect from Fury in the film, as we also have the appearance of a rookie Phil Coulson. Seeing as how Fury finally called in for her help after the events of Avengers: Infinity War, it would suggest they built quite a strong bond in their 90s adventure fighting the Skrull. It will be interesting to see if they also address the existence of Ant-Man or even Wakanda in the film but there is a chance that Fury’s security level is too low.
