One of the major highlights from San Diego Comic Con was the reveal of more footage for the upcoming Black Panther film. We did get a trailer back in June, which was quite early considering the film’s February release, so it was a special treat to see them reveal a bit more from the project. We now have descriptions of what we can expect from this film alongside some rather interesting reveals and teases of what we can expect from this Marvel Studios’ adventure.

The clip starts with a T’Challa and the Dora Milaje entering a casino simple and elegant in so search of the returning Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis), who we first saw lose his arm during the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron. He is found with Martin Freeman‘s Everett Ross trying to make a deal to exchange diamonds for vibranium. The king’s sister Shuri gets impatient and starts a fight that ends with Klaue’s new arm turning into a gun, but is promptly blocked.

A new trailer follows that shows the crowning of T’Challa, him discussing what kind of ruler he wants to be, as he is the confronted by Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan). He proclaims that the king was doing nothing as they get into a skirmish. We then see another chase sequence featuring Black Panther and the Dora Milaje, as they chase Klaue through a city. After getting hit, the young king gets covered by nano-tech that turns out to be his suit. We see him run up a wall and throw a staff to stop the car that Klaue is trying to escape in. It ends with another battle between T’Challa and Killmonger, who then has his own suit appearing around him.

The footage seems to focus quite a bit on the two villains, as it seems that Klaue and Killmonger will make the life of T’Challa very difficult. There is a surprising lack of M’Baku, who will also be an antagonist in the film, but they may be keeping him for more storylines later down the line with Killmonger being the main antagonist, who is working together with the one-armed villain.

What is really interesting is the suit that surrounds Killmonger at the end of the footage that was shown at SDCC. It seems that it will be a golden version of the Black Panther costume only with a headpiece that is closer to a Jaguar. Given M’Baku’s tribe worshipping the white gorilla, it seems that Killmonger’s tribe may have a deity of their own that rivals that of the royal family. Actress Letitia Wright, who plays Black Panther’s sister, Shuri, actually had an interesting thing to say.

“There’s some intelligent brains behind that creation.”

It will be interesting to see what this will mean for the film and if it shares the same abilities that were teased for the new Black Panther. The exclusive SDCC poster showed his costume lighting up, which showed him using the mystical powers hidden in vibranium. It does once again highlight how Wakanda combines their more mystical elements with very futuristic technology. We may also see the Golden Jaguar costume from the main villain to use these abilities as well. Maybe M’Baku gets his own costume and we have a three-way showdown for the throne of Wakanda?

What do you think of the footage? Are you looking forward to seeing Killmonger’s very own Golden Jaguar costume?
