Last night was ABC’s night at San Diego ComiCon for Marvel. While most of the attention was on a much better-received trailer for Inhumans, there was some other news in the panel that will definitely excite the devoted fan base of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as it enters its fifth season (shooting now).

This is a great move from ABC. The decision to put the shows on Friday night was part of a bigger plan to create a more coherent genre show destination on the network. Connecting the two shows should firm up the audience across both. With a show in its fifth season, S.H.I.E.L.D. may benefit from a new group of viewers starting with Inhumans and continuing on with Coulson and crew for the first time. In some ways, Marvel is also catching up with D.C. when it comes to network TV. For a while now CW has discovered the synergies and crossovers allowed with their handful of shows. Making a big event of the two Marvel shows connecting is a solid plan, particularly with the female lead of S.H.I.E.L.D. being an Inhuman herself.
As far as the plot connections, only time will tell. The big cliffhanger at the end of Season 4 put the team in space, so it could connect to the Inhumans base on the moon. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. also has a long standing issue of the various NuHumans (to use comic terms) popping up around the globe, and that same phenomenon was obvious in the Inhumans trailer with Triton recruiting one of those very people who S.H.I.E.L.D. has been trying to recruit as well.
Are you excited for a crossover? Do you think the tones of the shows should fit together? Do you want to see Coulson in Inhumans, the Royals in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., or both? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
