The Marvel Studios panel has revealed quite a lot about the upcoming Captain Marvel project. We not only now know that it takes place in the 90s, Nick Fury will be involved and we can expect the Skrulls to make an appearance as the main villains of the film. It seems that they are going in deep when it comes to the former Ms Marvel’s character lore and it offers a lot of storylines to explore, especially when it comes to the Skrulls. One of the major questions that came out of the Hall H panel was what storyline surrounding these shape-shifting aliens we can expect. It seems we may have gotten an answer from Marvel Studios CEO, Kevin Feige, as he was interviewed by IGN’s Terri Schwartz.

One major story from the comics that will be a part of Captain Marvel is the famous Kree-Skrull war according to Feige, which will see the two infamous races fight for supremacy. While a classic story arc that featured many members of the Avengers in issues Avengers #89 – 97 back in 1971, the Kree-Skrull war has been ongoing for millennium. Thecomic run was actually the introduction of the romance between Vision and Scarlet Witch, which may become an important part of Avengers: Infinity War. This comic run heavily featured the Kree version of the titular character, Mar-Vell, whose role she might take over.

This taking place in the 90s actually opens up a lot of possibilities. We not only will be able to explore more of Kree culture through these films, as the alien race has mainly appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy and in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. so far, but also see the events that may tie into the peace treaty they signed in the first Guardians. We could even see the return of Ronan,  who would still be around during this time and we may find out what drove the enforcer to his extreme hatred against Xandar. The Skrulls now officially existing in the MCU also opens up a lot of questions about things that have been happening all along. Now that you know Skrulls have been around all this time, who do you trust?
