After the schedules for their Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Luke Cage panels were announced last week, Marvel Studios has officially been confirmed to take the Hall H stage at this year’s SDCC. Of course, with James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy director) and Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange director) having already confirmed their presence at the con, this isn’t entirely surprising. However, it’s hard not to get excited after the studio skipped the con last year for D23.
As to what the studio has planned for their Hall H panel this year? We already know that a Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 teaser is sure to be shown, and that some of the cast will be on-hand to take the stage. We also know that Doctor Strange will have some sort of presence. But perhaps most exciting? Rumor has it Marvel Studios will announce who is playing Captain Marvel during their Hall H presentation. With actress Brie Larson – who will already be heading to SDCC on behalf of Skull Island – having been revealed to be in talks. As long as a deal has been made, I’d expect her to take the stage at some point. Of course, that doesn’t mean this is a guarantee. After all, Benedict Cumberbatch was said to be confirmed as Doctor Strange at SDCC last year, and that ended up not happening. For now, we can at least get excited at learning more about Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 and Doctor Strange. (Reminder: Although Marvel doesn’t release SDCC footage to the public, most blogs do reveal in-depth breakdowns of what was shown.)
SDCC takes place from Thursday, July 21st through Sunday, July 24th.
