While James Gunn isn’t returning as director, his script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be used, as confirmed by his brother Sean Gunn in an interview with Tulsa World and previously reported way back in August when James Gunn was fired.

“I don’t really know yet what’s going on with ‘Guardians 3.’ I know that Disney still wants to make the movie. I know that they have every intention of using the script that my brother wrote. Obviously, that was a very unfortunate situation for everybody, most of all him, but I am also somebody who had been preparing to spend half a year making that movie and now that’s up in the air.”

While for many this is a relief, it does leave the question of who will direct in place of James Gunn, especially now that it’s been confirmed that his script will indeed be used. This could potentially hamper the hiring process for someone who wants to direct with this kind of baggage hanging onto the movie, unless the script does go through rewrites to placate them and help adjust into the vacant position.

If there aren’t too many changes, then it seems like Dave Bautista won’t try and get out of his contract with Disney as promised, but I doubt that he’ll be likely to work with them ever again after it’s completed.
