Geeks Worldwide are reporting that Marvel Studios is set to begin production on a new movie this fall in Australia with casting now underway. This production is likely for Shang-Chi, as it was earlier reported that it would be shooting in the country.

The first role is described as a “wise, old statesman,” who is “the leader of his people”. The actor is to be Asian and between the ages of 40 & 60. The likely character for this role would be The Mandarin, leader of the Ten Rings. In a recent AMA on Reddit, Kevin Feige revealed that Marvel Studios still had plans for the character.

In the comics, Shang-Chi is the son of the incredibly problematic, Fu Manchu. However, the character has since been renamed (for obvious reasons) to Zheng Zu. He is the evil father of our hero, Shang-Chi, and the leader of several secret societies and criminal organizations. Sound familiar? What could likely happen is Marvel Studios making The Mandarin the father of Shang-Chi.

The second role is “one of the leader’s most skilled warriors” and intended to be a female Asian actress in her 30s or 40s. This character could be the half-sister of Shang-Chi, Fah Lo Suee, who in the comics followed in her father’s footsteps. She would often oppose her brother, heading multiple criminal organizations of her own.

What do you think? What other characters do you believe this casting call is for?
