After the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming, there are still many questions surrounding the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially the rapid-fire approach by Sony to feature as many Spidey characters as possible in their films. While it ranges from being its own thing to being part of the MCU, the upcoming Venom film is certainly one to keep on your radar. The guys over at That Hashtag Show actually may have some more reveals for the film, as another famous host of the venomous symbiote might make an appearance in the film.
That person is none other than Ann Weying, the ex-wife of Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock. The lawyer made quite an impression in the comics, as she at one point also wore the infamous bio suit that would turn her into She-Venom. While it is unclear if we will see this transformation, it is interesting that we may get a closer look at Brock’s more human side.
It seems that the character’s backstory is not quite finalized, so she might not be his ex-wife, but a love interestfor the film. Sony is currently looking for an actress from the age of 25 to 32 to play Ann. Given the R-rating of the upcoming film, it will be interesting to see if they also take a deeper look at the characters darker fate that she faced with depression. This could also be a sign that Stanley Carter a.k.a. Sin-Eater might play a role in the film to some capacity.
The exclusive from the site also teases which version of the symbiote we should expect in the spin-off. It seems that they will not be using the 616-version introduced in Secret Wars, but in fact take the direction from the Ultimate Spider-Man series, which was a bio suit that was created by the fathers of Eddie Brock and Peter Parker, which may also hint at an interesting dynamic that could be played out between these two characters.
Hardy is naturally older by quite a bit in comparison to Spider-Man actor Tom Holland, but if they keep his journalistic background alive, it would be rather interesting to establish the Daily Bugle as a supporting cast that is used in both franchises.
What are your thoughts on the matter? Who do you want to play Ann?
