The latest episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was quite eventful. Not only is it building up to the final battle with Kasius but also had some rather large surprises in store for longtime viewers. So far, the fifth season has connected a variety of story elements from seasons’ past to further expand the MCU’s mythology. We finally saw the return of Gravitonium, which explained the artificial gravity on the Lighthouse and may hopefully tease the return of Graviton.
The recent episode even had a callback to one of the largest mysteries surrounding Coulson’s return that kickstarted the entire TV series. The last few episodes saw the return of an older Robin who functioned as a seer for the resistance that wanted to free themselves of the Kree. Yet, suddenly it seems as if Kasius may have someone with a similar ability on his side. We still have no idea who it may be. In an interview, Henry Simmons teased a shocking reveal that is heading our way.
Let me tell you, when I first found out who this person is, I was shocked. People say, ‘Oh, it’s shocking,’ but no-no-no, I was shocked.
Natalia Cordova-Buckley also added that we have no idea who this person may end up being. Going by Kasius’ history of breeding new Inhumans based on their D.N.A. it would not be surprising if he may have created a new “Robin”. There are potentially crazier theories to throw out there, as Fitz did point to the fact that they must have lived through these events before to establish the technology that would “save” humanity. Almost pointing to an endless loop of them going to the future, returning to the past and then living through the catastrophe that left the planet in shambles. Is there a chance that he got his hands on Fitz or Melinda who has lived through these events? They would be quite old at the time this takes place, but perhaps he is somehow keeping them alive after all these years?
There is also one more aspect of the show that has been keeping people guessing. We now know that most of the main members of S.H.I.E.L.D. have lived through these events with the exceptions of Coulson and Daisy. This has led to the speculation that some of the characters from the current timeline may be related to our favorite agents. Deke has been part of many theories, most notably being the grandchild of Fitz and Simmons. A similar theory also surrounds Flint who some believe is related to Mack and Yo-Yo. Cordova-Buckley had her own thoughts on the matter.
Look, you’re sort of on the right track, that there might be connections…But, again, we have not found out if there’s any connection between us and Flint, and we have not found about the other connection you just made. I’m hoping that Flint has something do with us. I want to adopt him and just bring him back! I want to have him in my house every day, because I love that kid so much!
The two have developed a strong bond with young Flint and acted like they were his parents throughout the last few episodes. It would make sense that there are some connections between the main cast and these new characters from the future. Still, it would be great to see him join the team into the present. His abilities make a nice addition to the show and could also have an interesting connection to the events that transpired shortly before the world shattered. The show features three characters that are able to accomplish such a feat, a boy capable of moving rocks at will, an agent able to shake the very foundation of our planet and a man that fused together with a metal able to control gravity. The latter has yet to be seen since the first season but with the return of Gravitonium, there is the possibility that he may finally make his return. To battle such a fearsome foe, it would make sense to bring Flint back to the past and create a new generation of Secret Warriors.
