The few patient fans watching the season finale of Inhumans were rewarded with two promos season 5 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Fans are undoubtedly excited to see what our favorite agents are up to in space—and it looks like they wandered into a Ridley Scott sci-fi horror.
Coulson and co. (minus Fitz) have been kidnapped by unknown assailants, with threats coming from multiple sides in some sort of space ship. We heard some of these belligerent aliens described from our NYCC visit, but now we get to see them in action—the blue “roach” alien looks to be a significant threat, with (minor) characters being pulled off in classic horror movie fashion and our heroes running for their lives.
“Have you ever seen an Alien movie?” Mack asks his teammates in response to the plan to split up. A bit on the nose, but Mack follows it up with a funny joke about another horror movie trope. In both spots, we see blue characters, who we suspected back in August based on an… interesting set video was a Kree. WIth the confirmation from NYCC that the Kree will appear, it looks like we’ll be seeing them right away in the season 5 premiere as another antagonistic force.
Additionally, the second spot gives us another look at the mysterious masked character that we also described at NYCC, with a cheesy rip-off Iron Man mask and a jacket that resembles that of Star-Lord’s. EW revealed this character to be Deke, a “roguish scavenger” played by Jeff Ward (no relation). Whether Deke is a straight up friend or foe doesn’t appear to be clear in the TV spots.
These other unnamed characters appear to be very aware of who Phil Coulson is, expecting him and his team to save them all—this leads to many questions that will remain unanswered until the show’s two-hour premiere on December 1st.
What did you think of our first look at season 5? Anything else that you noticed we may have missed?
