Collider reported in an episode of their podcast, The Sneider Cut, that the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home would include a version of the Sinister Six. This team will not be comic accurate according to the rumor. The villains in this movie will be from the multiverse, much like what Sony did with their 2018 animated film Into The Spider-Verse. Confirmed returnees are Alfred Molina as Otto Octavius from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 and Jamie Foxx as Elektro/Max Dillon. This is where we enter the world of rumors, as Willem Dafoe is reported to return as the Raimi-verse Norman Osborn/Green Goblin.
Jeff Sneider comments that he heard the other three villains returning to even out the Sinister Six are Sandman, Rhino, and The Lizard. These are not confirmed, but Jeff goes on to say that the actors that formerly portrayed these characters would be back in action. This includes Thomas Haden Church as Flint Marko/Sandman from the Tobey Maguire era, Rhys Ifans portrayed Dr. Curt Connors, and Paul Giamatti as Aleksei Sytsevich/Rhino from Andrew Garfield’s outings. Many names have been mentioned but this appears to be the first time The Lizard and Rhino were brought up.
At this point, Tobey and Andrew are expected to return for this film. Therefore these villains do make sense. The rumor goes on to say that this group would find themselves trapped in the MCU timeline with no way to get back to their home realities. It is interesting that Tom Holland’s foes aren’t included with this rumor. Spider-Man: Homecoming set up a storyline for Michael Mando’s Mac Gargan to make his own appearance down the line. But maybe he didn’t make the cut for this film. I suppose we’ll have to wait and see when Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters on December 17, 2021. Do you want all of the villains in No Way Home to be from previous Spider-Man outings? Or would you prefer for Mac Gargan or Michael Keaton’s Vulture to join the group?
