Marvel’s new Disney+ show Loki finally has another new cast member! After a very long empty period of news on the solo series for our favorite trickster, a new report from Variety.com has confirmed that British actress Sophia Di Martino will co-star in an undisclosed role alongside Tom Hiddleston, although Marvel has no comment as of now on the casting news.
Di Martino broke out in 2016 as the lead in the Netflix series Flowers before jumping to her fist major big screen role in 2019’s Beatles-based dramedy Yesterday. She reportedly beat out a number of other actresses for the role, as is usually the case in anything with Marvel Studios attached to it, so we are obviously curious as to what role she will fill in the show and exactly how she will interact with and deal with our resident god of mischief.
Loki is set to follow our titular antihero after his 2012 reality version escaped from Stark Tower with the Tesseract during the time heist in Avengers: Endgame, and the show is rumored to have him popping up throughout human history as a kind of unseen, unknown influencer on historical events. Kate Herron is set to serve as the show’s director and Michael Waldron serves as the writer for the pilot as well as a show creator and executive producer for the series, which is expected to begin filming in early 2020 with a release in spring 2021. Long live Loki!
