Well, that didn’t take long. Following the release of the first trailers for Spider-Man: Homecoming, Sony has chosen to strike while the iron is hot and pin down a date for the first sequel. Tom Holland’s solo story as Peter Parker will continue on July 5th, 2019. The date is not one of Marvel Studios’ previously announced Phase 4 dates, all of which are slotted for 2020, but it is expected that Sony and Marvel Studios will continue to collaborate on the production of the film.

Holland has signed an initial 6-film contract with 3 of those being solo Spidey adventures. When the film begins production, likely in the summer of 2018, Holland will only be 22 years old and very capable of still portraying a high school aged Parker. It’s also very likely, given the quality of the supporting cast, that many of them have extended contracts as well. Though we still don’t know who many of them are playing, it’s clear Marvel Studios and Sony are doing some serious world building around Peter, so we’re guessing they are some of Spidey’s most iconic characters and will have a major role to play in the future!
