Spoiler Warning: This article contains possible spoilers for Captain America: Civil War. If you don’t want to be spoiled, I’d suggest you do not read further.
Over the past couple of days, set photos from Captain America: Civil War have started to hit the web. Most of the photos have been nothing more than location shots, but there was one set that came out a few days ago that featured what looked to be a funeral scene.
This immediately led to speculation from fans about who would die in the film, with most people believing it to be Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). We last saw Atwell’s Carter in last year’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, where we saw her battling Alzheimers. Given her state of health, she seemed like the logical choice for who would die in Civil War. But all of that was just speculation, as we really had nothing to go on until today.
According to Geeks With Wives, Peggy Carter will succumb to old age in next year’s Captain America: Civil War.
Here’s what they had to say:
We all know that Captain America: Civil War is currently filming in Atlanta. We also have heard they are filming a funeral scene in the downtown area. Speculation has run rampant about who could possibly be headed for the grave. With many believing it will be our titular hero.
Lucky for you Geeks With Wives has a source on the set and they have reveled the person that has seemingly met their end in Captain America: Civil War.
It appears Agent Carter will be making her final debut in the present day MCU. As we saw in Captain America: Winter Solider Peggy wasn’t doing so well and suffering from Alzheimers, so it probably won’t be a surprise for many that see will succumb to old age in Captain America: Civil War. This could mean a lot for Steve Rogers and be the emotional push he needs in the fight against Iron Man and Baron Zemo. It could also serve as a reintroduction and the realization that Sharon Carter is Peggy niece.
Adding more legitimacy to this scoop from Geeks With Wives are the set photos that have been revealed thanks to Just Jared.
(Heads up, if you’re looking for your first look at Anthony Mackie on set, head over to the photo source. He doesn’t appear to be part of the funeral scene, so I didn’t include those photos in this post.)
Captain America: Civil War hits theaters on May 6th, 2016.
