The MCU suffered its biggest loss last year not with the death of all its heroes in Avengers: Infinity War but with the passing of comic book’s biggest torchbearer, Stan Lee. The world mourned the passing of an inspiring icon but also for the end of his endearing cameos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Speaking at a fan event in India, Avengers: Endgame director Joe Russo shared his experience working with the man all these years and revealed that, like some of the OG Avengers, the film may indeed feature his last ever appearance.

As Joe Russo alludes to in the video (he says Homecoming but clearly means Far From Home) there’s some question as to whether Stan got to film his cameo for Spider-Man: Far From Home. Given how Far From Home and Endgame were filmed close to each other, it’s possible they managed to have him on set for both films since he usually films his cameos in batches. A cameo in a Spider-Man film feels like a fitting curtain call for The Man but one in the finale of the MCU is just as apt. Regardless, 2019 will likely be the year we last see Stan Lee on screen. His presence will truly be missed.
