Every-other year, Disney holds it’s own fan event, the D23 Expo, in Anaheim, California. This event caters the the fans of all Disney properties, and is likely to be where we will learn about Marvel Studios’ plans for the future. But it appears that Disney will also be honoring Marvel’s past, by honoring Stan Lee as a Disney Legend.
This news is legendary! Recipients are chosen for their remarkable impact and contributions to The Walt Disney Company, and this year the Disney Legends Awards celebrates its 30th anniversary.
Lee’s impact and contributions to Disney need very little explanation. As one of the original creators of many of the Marvel characters that we now see on screen, his creations have gone from comics to screens, and on to all of our imaginations. Of course, even if you don’t recognize his name from the beginning of every Marvel property, and the front of many comic books, you may recognize him as the elderly gentleman with a cameo in every Marvel Studios movie.
Lee will be in good company, with Mark Hamill, the late Carrie Fisher, Oprah Winfrey, Gary Marshall, Clyde “Gerry” Geronimi, Manuel Gonzales, Wayne Jackson, and Julie Taymor also being recognized as Disney Legends this year. The awards will be presented Disney Chairman and CEO, Bob Iger on July 14.
