Inhumans continues to push ahead in production on the islands of Hawaii. Already the choice of filming scenes in downtown Honolulu has surprised some, and now we are getting some more production sneak peeks from Reel News Hawaii in an unusual location. As you can see in the images below, the moon-dwellers are going to be in a much more domestic setting than Attilan.

What are fans to make of this? The somewhat obvious take would be to continue down the negativity train that feels like its overtaking a lot of the news around this show. Many will wonder why in the world a franchise that should include fantastic characters who can travel through space and live in a fabulous technologically advanced utopia are instead filming what appears to be an episode of Hee Haw. It looks at first blush like just another piece of evidence that the creators of this show don’t really understand what makes the Inhumans unique, and instead are trying to fit that unique property into a procrustean bed of “grounded” storytelling.
Now the more optimistic take is that an interesting fish-out-of-water story is happening. Maybe bringing the royal family out of a world they largely control into a world they don’t know will make the characters pop. And a more rural American setting is not completely unheard of for the Inhumans. The graphic novel “By Right of Birth” tells the story of Medusa’s pregnancy, and mostly takes place in a secluded backwater area of the USA.
At this point, it seems unlikely that much will ease concerned fans minds until a full trailer comes. Hopefully, that is merely days away with the upfront presentations ABC will make to advertisers. A good trailer with high-quality VFX and an interesting story could do a lot to make all these little leaks feel more comfortable.
